The Brink. Near Asakusa, Tokyo: 2014

This is a response to the dizzying urban anatomy of Asakusa, Tokyo. The series was inspired by Bernice Abbot’s vertiginous elevated images of New York City and her assertion that “Angle shots imported from the movies, bird’s-eye views, worm’s-eye views, rooftop views, are all a part of the complete envisioning of the city’s complex architectural stratifications”. The images explore the contrast between the orderly composition of street networks seen from above, and the abstract haze of colour and movement experienced at ground level.
